Bollywood drama examining the topical subject of Indian caste reservations in government and educational institutions.

Prabhakar Anand (Amitabh Bachchan) is the principal of one of the state's best colleges, an idealistic and charismatic figure who has played a major role in the success of the institution.

He is admired greatly by Deepak (Saif Ali Khan), who also happens to be in love with Prabhakar's daugher, Poorbi (Deepika Padukone).

However, Deepak is also friends with Sushant (Prateik Babbar), and when the Supreme Court order on the reservation takes effect it tests the friends' loyalty to the extreme.

With Prabhakar responsible for enforcing the rule, the institution's very figurehead and guiding influence will soon face questions over his conduct.
