Best of the Badmen

1950s western set after the American Civil War. Notorious Confederate outlaws the Quantrill Raiders are reluctant to accept the terms of the peace agreement following the end of the war.

They eventually surrender to Major Jefferson Clanton (Robert Ryan) and his cavalry, but money-hungry detective Matthew Fowler (Robert Preston) is eager to be awarded for apprehending the gang members and frames the major for murder.

Clanton now has no alternative but to join the outlaws on the run.
