Growing up in Lubbock, Texas Buddy dreams of making it as a songwriter but is discouraged by his parents to focus on getting a proper job.

Steadfast in his own belief Buddy forms a band with friends Jesse (Don Stroud) and Ray Bob (Charles Martin Smith) who become known as The Crickets and begin penning hits such as 'That'll Be the Day' and 'Peggy Sue'.
