Gene Tierney and George Montgomery star in this drama directed by Henry Hathaway.

While on a job in Japanese-occupied China, American news cameraman Johnny (Montgomery) gets taken into custody by the military who wish to employ him as a spy.

Managing to escape he ends up in Mandalay where he meets a beautiful woman by the name of Haoli (Tierney).

While Johnny falls madly in love with her, Haoli tries her hardest to warn him away from the Japanese.
