Classic British Movies Collection: Volume 1

Collection of six classic British films. In crime thriller 'Murder' (1930), actress Diana (Norah Baring) is accused of murdering one of her friends and all but one of the jury at her trial are sure of her guilt.

Sir John Menier (Herbert Marshall), however, is unconvinced, and sets out to bring the real murderer to justice.

Social drama 'The Skin Game' (1931) is based on the play by John Galsworthy.

When the wealthy Hornblower (Edmund Gwenn) claims a valuable forest property, the British countryside turns into an ideological battlefield.

The property has been controlled for centuries by the 'landed gentry' and the local squire (C.V.

France) and his wife (Helen Haye) refuse to acknowledge Hornblower's presence.

In crime thriller 'Young and Innocent' (1937) a young woman is found strangled on the seashore.

Robert Tisdall (Derrick De Marney) is quickly identified as the chief suspect in the case.

Though the young man protests his innocence, it seems that only Erica Burgoyne (Nova Pilbeam), the eighteen-year-old daughter of the local police constable, is prepared to believe him.

Together, the unlikely duo set out to find the real killer.

In romantic comedy thriller 'Rich and Strange' (1932) Fred (Henry Kendall) and Emily Hill (Joan Barry) are bored with their marital lifestyle in dreary London, and so jump at the chance of a cruise around the world when they receive an inheritance from a wealthy uncle.

However, all does not go as planned; following a quarrel, the couple split and commence affairs, Fred with an attractive con artist, Emily with an older man.

These peccadillos only serve to heighten tensions between the pair, but pale in comparison with the disaster that awaits...

In crime mystery 'Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace' (1962) the Baker Street detective returns to investigate another baffling case.

Holmes (Christopher Lee) and Watson (Thorley Walters) spring into action when a valuable necklace which once belonged to Cleopatra is purloined by arch-fiend Professor Moriarty (Hans Söhnker) on an expedition to Egypt.

Only one man is left alive who can identify Moriarty, but he is in great danger due to the evil professor's talent for disguise.

Can Holmes match his old enemy in cunning? In romantic drama, 'Under Capricorn' (1949), set in 1831, Irishman Charles Adare (Michael Widling) travels to Australia to start a new life with the help of his cousin who has just been appointed governor.

When he arrives he meets powerful landowner and ex-convict Sam Flusky (Joseph Cotten), who wants to do a business deal with him.

Whilst attending a dinner party at Flusky's house, Charles meets Flusky's wife Henrietta (Ingird Bergman) who he had known as a child back in Ireland.

Henrietta is an alcoholic and seems to be on the verge of madness...
