Columbia Noir #2

Six classic films noir produced by Columbia Pictures in the 1940s and '50s.

In 'Framed' (1947) Mike Lambert (Glenn Ford) arrives in a small mining town looking for work and becomes involved in the murderous schemes of barmaid Paula Craig (Janis Carter).

In '711 Ocean Drive' (1950) telephone engineer Mal Granger (Edmond O'Brien) becomes involved in illegal gambling before joining forces with a syndicate of East Coast mobsters.

In 'The Mob' (1951) detective Johnny Damico (Broderick Crawford) goes undercover as a longshoreman to investigate the Mob's criminal rackets.

In 'Affair in Trinidad' (1952) Rita Hayworth stars as Chris Emery, a sultry nightclub singer at her husband's bar in Trinidad.

When Chris's husband is murdered by a notorious spy, his brother Steve (Glenn Ford) turns up, looking to track down the murderer, who has in the meantime become romantically involved with his victim's wife.

The situation becomes even more complicated when Steve finds himself falling in love with Chris - but neither of her suitors is aware of her unexpected secret motives...

In 'Tight Spot' (1955) Ginger Rogers stars as an imprisoned gangster's moll who decides to testify against him in exchange for her freedom.

Finally, in 'Murder By Contract' (1958) hit man Claude (Vince Edwards) is sent to Los Angeles to kill a witness, but has doubts when he discovers the identity of his target.
