Cradle Will Rock

The true story of how Orson Welles and the Federal Theatre Project tried to stage Marc Blitzstein's socialist musical 'The Cradle Will Rock', only to have the theatre closed down by their political opponents shortly before the opening night - an act of censorship which left Welles and his colleagues no choice but to search for an empty theatre where they might try to put on the show without sets or costumes.

Written and directed by Tim Robbins, 'Cradle Will Rock' provides a panorama of social, political and artistic life in Depression-era New York and features portrayals of such famous names as tycoon Nelson Rockefeller and painters Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.
