But when, in 1976, Sedgwick Bell (Emile Hirsch) - the headstrong and irreverent son of a powerful politician - walks into his classroom, Hundert's methods and morals are put to the test.

The lesson he learns from his encounter with Bell resonates over the years that follow, and comes to the fore again a quarter of a century later when Hundert finds himself reunited with his class of '76.
