The Flesh and Blood Show: The Horror Films of Pete Walker

In 'Die Screaming, Marianne' (1971), following the divorce of their parents, two sisters are separated, with one living in Portugal with their father and the other in England with their mother.

But when the mother suddenly dies, a family feud erupts.

One sister is determined to inherit her late mother's money and the other sister seeks to acquire the documents her mother held which incriminate her father as a crooked judge.

Naturally, their father also desires these documents, and it seems neither he, nor the sisters are prepared to stop until they get what they want.

In 'The Flesh and Blood Show' (1972), a deserted end-of-the-pier theatre becomes the rehearsal space for a troupe of actors, each of whom has been hired by an unseen employer.

The company of eight commence work on the play they have been commissioned to perform, but one by one they are brutally murdered. 'House of Whipcord' (1974), follows two high-handed sadists who kidnap nubile young women, incarcerate them, and then subject them to spanking and whipping.

The purpose of this exercise, or so the sadists believe, is to help rid the girls of their immoral behaviour.

In 'Frightmare' (1974), a psychotic mother (Sheila Keith) and her equally unbalanced daughter become involved in sinister experiments, as they attempt to help relieve pressure of the skull on the brain by drilling into the cranium of their hapless victims.

In 'House of Mortal Sin' (1976), when Jenny Welch (Susan Penhaligon) tries to track down her old friend Bernard (Norman Eshley), who has become a priest, she is persuaded to confess her sins to Father Xavier Meldrum (Anthony Sharp) in his absence.

But this has dire consequences for the pair as the cleric becomes increasingly obsessed with Jenny and, after hearing her sins, sets out on a spate of brutal murders. 'Schizo' (1977) stars Lynne Frederick stars as Samantha, a young woman about to be married, yet haunted by her past.

After her wedding she finds that her close friends are being horrifically murdered one by one, and that each death seems to be bringing her closer to the murderer.

Finally, 'The Comeback' (1978) follows rock star Nick Cooper (Jack Jones) who returns to England after six years away.

He attempts to pick up the pieces of his career under the guidance of fickle manager Webster Jones (David Doyle).

When Jones arranges for Nick to spend the weekend at a quiet country house, however, the singer arrives to discover the body of his estranged wife, Gail (Holly Palance), brutally murdered...
