Living with her paranoid father (Hirsch), seven-year-old Chloe (Lexy Kolker) is forbidden from leaving the house for fear of the outside world.

However, tempted by the sound of an ice cream van, Chloe musters the courage to disobey her father and opens the front door.

Intrigued by the ice cream, she investigates the van, but when she is faced with a strange old man (Dern) she begins to wonder whether her father was right to keep the doors locked...
