Fred Astaire Collection

Collection of four musicals starring Fred Astaire. In 'Top Hat' (1935) Jerry Travers (Astaire) receives an inexplicably haughty response from Dale Tremont (Ginger Rogers) when he attempts to woo her, but that's because she has mistaken him for her friend's husband.

Love's eventual triumph is charted through a number of classic song and dance routines, including 'Cheek to Cheek' and 'Top Hat, White Tie and Tails'. 'Swing Time' (1936) is another of the celebrated Astaire/Rogers collaborations.

John 'Lucky' Garnett (Astaire) is due to be married, but his father-in-law to be says he has to earn $25,000 to prove that he is worthy.

So he goes off to take some dance lessons, only to fall for his instructor, Penny Carrol (Rogers).

In 'You'll Never Get Rich' (1941) Astaire plays a Broadway dance director who falls for his playboy producer's latest showgirl.

Rita Hayworth became a star as a result of her performance in this musical comedy, with songs by Cole Porter.

In 'You Were Never Lovelier' (1942) Maria Acuna (Hayworth) is the daughter of hotelier Edwardo (Adolphe Menjou), who wishes her to marry posthaste.

Maria believes that no man can match her high standards, so Edwardo invents a phoney Romeo, sending his daughter flowers and love notes.

When penniless American dancer Robert Davis (Astaire) delivers the latest of Edwardo's gifts, Maria believes him to be her mystery admirer.
