When Estelle (Bancroft) receives the news that she has an inoperable brain tumour, she decides that she is not going to waste another day and sets about ticking things off her to-do list.

Estelle's son Gilbert (Ron Silver), a rather unambitious accountant, is something of a disappointment to his mother, but when he learns she is dying he does everything in his power to fulfil her last wish to meet her life-long idol Greta Garbo.
