Great Guy/Something to Sing About/Blood on the Sun

Triple bill of classic James Cagney movies. In 'Great Guy' (1936) Cagney plays Jimmy 'Red' Cave, an investigator for the Department of Weights and Measures, in this fast-talking tale of corruption within the meat industry.

The problem begins when it comes to light that the city's shopkeepers have been charging too much for their meat products, but it's an organised racket and one government investigator has already taken a beating over it.

But then Jimmy comes along, and with his unorthodox methods and the talents he learned as a one-time boxer, those crooks had better watch out.

In 'Something to Sing About' (1937) Cagney stars as Terry Rooney, a popular New York band leader.

He moves to California with his wife (Evelyn Daw) after being offered a lucrative Hollywood contract.

Mr. Regan (Gene Lockhart), the head of the studio, believes that Rooney's lack of interest in becoming a star is arrogance on the band leader's part.

When his first film is a huge success and hit for the studio, Regan tries to hide the truth from Rooney.

After returning from a holiday with his wife, Rooney discovers the extent of his fame.

Finally, in 'Blood on the Sun' (1945) newspaper editor Nick Condon (Cagney) is based in Tokyo, and puts his life and those of others at risk when he runs a story revealing Japan's plans to conquer China.

When the reporter who wrote the story (Wallace Ford) and his wife (Rosemary de Camp) are both murdered, Condon teams up with a beautiful secret agent (Sylvia Sidney) to expose corruption in the Japanese government.
