Surviving your placement in health and social care : a student handbook

This book is designed to be the handbook for students undertaking practice placements in nursing and other health professions, and will guide students through the process, from early stages of preparation, understanding what the placement is for and what is expected of them, through to the individual issues such as reflective practice, being supervised, managing time, using the internet to learn, and passing the assessment.

The book also covers Professional Development issues involved with placements, and will thus appeal to students undertaking placements as part of Post-registration study, as well as pre-reg.

It is highly practical, full of reflection exercises, questions, tests, ideas and tools to use on placement, so students can dip into the book as and when.

It's envisaged that we'll provide downloadable worksheets / activities online that students can print off to complete, even including them in their portfolios/formal assessments if appropriate.Nothing else like this exists on the market, and there is a huge gap for a book that links the theories students learn in the classroom with the reality of being on placement, and helps them incorporate this into their own personal and professional development.

Universities provide ad hoc guidelines, but these only cover the superficial aspects of placement - this will tackle the big issues and help get students through!
