When a research facility in Chicago explodes a number of people are killed who continue to inhabit the earth and are known as remnants.

Ten years later sensitive high school student Veronica Calder (Thorne) becomes haunted by a remnant named Brian (Thomas Elms).

As she consults her teacher, August Bittner (Dermot Mulroney), about the motives behind these visits he reassures her that remnants make no attempt to interact or communicate and convinces her that she will be safe.

However, high school loner Kirk Lane (Richard Harmon) believes there is a reason for these encounters and together the pair attempt to unravel the mystery.
