Fire Protection in Nuclear Power Plants

This guide points out the necessity of measures for protecting plant items which are important to safety against fires of internal and external origin.

Fire, being a real threat to nuclear safety, should receive adequate attention from the beginning of the design process throughout the life of a plant.

The present guide was developed to enlarge on the general requirements given in the Code on the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants: Design, Safety Series No. 50-SG-D (Rev. 1), published in 1988.
