Four years after the events of 'Jaws' (1975), Police Chief Martin Brody (Scheider) remains fearful about the prospect of another killer shark coming to Amity Island.

When two scuba divers are killed, their camera is recovered and includes a picture of the shark that attacked them.

However, Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) refuses to believe Brody and he is relieved of his position.

Realising that a group of teenagers including their two sons are out on the water, Brody and his wife Ellen (Lorraine Gary) set out to rescue them, but the shark has found them first...
