John Ford: Director's Collection

A collection from one of Hollywood's all-time-great directors.

In 'The Informer' (1935), set during the Irish Civil War of 1922, Gypo Nolan (Victor McLaglen) is desperate for money.

Wishing to emigrate to America, but needing ten pounds to do so, he decides to inform on rebel Frankie McPhillip (Wallace Ford) in order to obtain the twenty pounds reward and secure his and his lover's future happiness.

In 'The Fugitive' (1947), a priest (Henry Fonda) finds himself forced to go on the run in a south-of-the-border country where religion is outlawed.

Having returned to minister to the spiritual needs of the community, he becomes a fugitive when he is pursued by the authorities.

In 'Mary Of The Scots' (1936), Mary Stuart (Katharine Hepburn) returns to Scotland to rule as queen, to the chagrin of Elizabeth I (Florence Eldridge) who finds her a dangerous rival.

There is much ado over whom Mary shall marry; to her later regret, she picks effete Lord Darnley (Douglas Walton) over the strong but unpopular Earl of Bothwell (Fredric March).

A palace coup leads to civil war and house arrest for Mary; she escapes and flees to England, where a worse fate awaits her.

In 'The Wagonmaster'(1950), Elder Wiggs (Ward Bond) accompanies a group of Mormons on their journey to San Juan.

He is joined by horse traders Travis Blue (Ben Johnson) and Sandy Owens (Harry Carey Jnr), and along the way they also pick up four members of a medicine show and a tribe of nomadic Native Americans.

They come under threat when the wagon train is joined by the Clegg family - murderous outlaws who are seeking to evade capture by the marshall's posse.
