Fred Zinnemann directs this Academy Award-winning historical drama based on Lillian Hellman's memoir 'Pentimento'.

The film follows Lillian (Jane Fonda), a celebrated American playwright who is invited to a writer's conference in Russia.

While travelling through Europe en route, Lillian is reunited with her old friend Julia (Vanessa Redgrave), who asks her to smuggle money through Nazi Germany as a means of aiding the anti-fascist cause; a dangerous mission for a young Jewish intellectual.
