Last Days of Mussolini

Rod Steiger plays the doomed Italian dictator desperately trying to avoid capture in this biopic directed by Carlo Lizzani.

As WWII draws to a close, 'Il Duce', along with his mistress, Claretta Petacci (Lisa Gastoni) heads for the sanctuary of Switzerland, eager to evade his American and Partisan pursuers.

However, his escape route is soon discovered, and after being captured by freedom fighters, he is held prisoner by the shores of Lake Como.

Awaiting their fate, the former leader and his mistress spend the night reflecting on their past lives, knowing that in the morning they are to be executed.
