Counselling, Coaching and Facilitation Skills

Trainers, line managers and teachers in further education are becoming increasingly involved in helping individuals achieve NVQ and other competence-based qualifications.

For trainers and managers, this involves undertaking the coaching and counselling of trainees and generally adopting a more facilitative role in the training learning/process.

This study outlines the different skills involved in coaching, counselling and facilitation; advises on when the use of one is more appropriate than another; offers tips and techniques for ensuring success with each approach, and warns against the potential pitfalls and problems. Part 1 outlines the advantages of adopting a facilitative approach, while Part 2 examines in detail the four specific training intervention methods.
