On the train she meets Cuthbert J. Twillie (Fields), a con man who conspires with Flower to fake a marriage in order to gain 'respectability'.

When the pair arrive in Greasewood City, Twillie, by chance, becomes sheriff of the town.

But the man who appointed him, town boss Jeff Badger (Joseph Calleia), has an ulterior motive.

In 'The Heat's On' (1943) actress Fay Lawrence (West) leaves the set of her forthcoming musical, which she is convinced is going to flop, to star in a rival revue 'Tropicana' - much to the consternation of the show's producer Tony Ferris (William Gaxton).
