Controlling crime

This study explores the process of justice, its rationale, procedures, discretionary powers and discriminatory outcomes within a pan-European comparative framework.

Historical and contemporary research on the role and function of the police, the courts, social work agencies, probation, multi-agency co-operation and the prison system are discussed.

The interrelationship between crime control and social control is a key theme throughout.This text forms one component of The Open University course D315 "Crime, Order and Social Control".
