Private detective Jill Fitzpatrick (Susie Porter) has been hired to look for a missing poetry student named Mickey.

Knowing little about poetry herself, Jill asks Mickey's tutor Diana (Kelly McGillis) for advice and the two women quickly become caught up in a passionate affair.

But when Mickey's body turns up murdered, Jill must continue to search through the secrets of the young student's life, groping deeper and deeper into the dark and seamy underworld of poetry.
