When dedicated journalist Phineas Mitchell (Gene Evans) launches his own newspaper, The Globe, he is delighted by its success and ability to capture the imagination of New Yorkers.

However, the paper that previously employed Mitchell, The Star, is not about to cede its readership and sets about trying to reign in The Globe by any means possible.
