Penny Serenade

Record store assistant Julie (Irene Dunne) falls for feckless reporter Roger (an Oscar nominated Cary Grant).

He is offered a job in Tokyo, but marries Julie before he leaves, promising to send for her once his finances are secure.

When she eventually arrives, however, it is left to her to clear his debts.

Happier times seem to be ahead when Julie becomes pregnant and they decide to return to America, but tragedy lurks just around the corner.
