When successful architect Ellen (Christie) discovers she is pregnant, she chooses young mother Paula (McClure) to come into her role as maternity cover.

As Ellen begins to feel uneasy about Paula's motives for doing the job however, she develops an obsession with her replacement which puts both her and her new baby at risk.
