Sidney Poitier Collection

Box set containing four popular movies starring Academy Award-winning actor Sidney Poitier.

In 'In the Heat of the Night' (1967), Rod Steiger plays a small-town Mississippi sheriff who is forced to collaborate on a murder investigation with Virgil Tibbs (Poitier), a black homicide detective from Philadelphia.

The pair at first find themselves totally at odds with each other, but as the investigation proceeds each learns to respect the other's talents.

In 'Lilies of the Field' (1963), travelling handyman Homer Smith (Poitier) encounters a group of nuns led by Mother Maria (Lilia Skala) while driving through the Arizona desert.

Newly arrived from Germany and unable to speak much English, the nuns prevail upon Homer to fix the leaky roof of their farmhouse and, despite being unable to pay him any money, persuade him to stay on and build them a chapel.

As he works for the nuns, teaching them English in his spare time, Homer discovers a new purpose to his life, but encounters resistance from the local community when he tries to persuade them to help with the building work.

In 'The Organization' (1971), Poitier reprises his role as Lt.

Virgil Tibbs in this taut drama that exposes the ruthless, high-stakes world of international drug traficking.

Finally, in 'They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!' (1970), Poitier again reprises his role as the intrepid investigator, Lt.

Virgil Tibbs, who must solve a puzzling murder in the City by the Bay.
