Astronaut and test pilot Steve Austin (Lee Majors) is involved in a plane crash that leaves him with severe injuries and on the brink of death.

Fortunately for him, government officials believe they have the technology to rebuild him.

Dr. Rudy Wells (Alan Oppenheimer) duly sets about equipping the stricken Austin with bionic limbs and implants, giving him inhuman speed and strength.

To repay the government for their help, Steve joins the Office of Scientific Intelligence, overseen by Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson), and uses his new powers to help fight crime, espionage and other threats to the nation's peace and stability.
