After splitting up with his wife, Smith (Neill) moves to a remote island owned by a Maori tribe.

However, while Smith enjoys his new peaceful existence, the country is gripped by political tension as an oil embargo leads to an energy crisis and mass protests.

With violent clashes breaking out across the country, the police arrive on the island to arrest Smith, who they suspect may have links to the revolutionary forces.
