When anthropology student Franny (Hathaway) gets a call to say that her estranged brother Henry (Ben Rosenfield) has been involved in a car accident and fallen into a coma, she returns home to New York to be by his bedside.

Determined to do everything she can to revive her brother, Franny travels around the city searching for familiar sounds, phrases and music to play to Henry in the hope of awakening his senses.

When she meets Henry's favourite musician, James Forrester (Flynn), Franny strikes up a conversation and convinces him to play at Henry's bedside in the hope of waking him up.
