Alaskan salmon fisherman Jim (Fonda) is struggling to make ends meet, losing a lot of his stock to poachers.

When he discovers that one of the poachers is his old friend Tyler (Raft), he enlists the help of Tyler's sweetheart Nicky (Lamour) to reason with him before he reaches the point of no return.
