The Staircase

In December 2001, crime novelist Michael Peterson (Firth) is arrested on suspicion of murdering his second wife, Kathleen (Collette), after her body is discovered at the bottom of the staircase in their home in Durham, North Carolina.

As the case goes to trial, a team of French film-makers begin documenting Michael's story while his family debates his innocence.
