Peter D'Mello (Anil Dhawan) is wrongfully found guilty of murder and sentenced to death for the crime, leaving his son John (Govinda) to become an orphan.

When the victim's wife Mrs. Sharma (Tanuja) finds out the truth about the murder she seeks to make amends for the needless death of Peter by caring for John but he soon runs away after being taunted about his father and his upbringing.

Years later, John has become a criminal and is contracted to kill Mrs. Sharma's son, police officer Amar (Dutt). After being reintroduced to the Sharmas, however, his conscience gets the better of him as he realises they are the only family he has left.
