The Tiger and the Flame

Bollywood film directed by and starring Sohrab Modi.

Filmed in 1956, this was the first Indian feature to be shot in Technicolor.

Set at the time of the 1857 Indian mutiny it tells the story of Queen Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi (Mehtab), one of the first Indians to rebel against British rule.

At the age of nine Rani is forced to marry the 50-year-old King of Jhansi, Gangadhar Rao (Mubarak).

Unwilling to be seen as unable, Rani learns of military strategy, self-defence and diplomacy.

The story of Rani's life develops through her courage and political goals as she leads a revolt against the British Empire.
