The Adventures of Dee-Jan and Mocka-la-doo (Book One) is the first in a series of books about the adventures of a 14 year old, Hill Tribe Mahout.

Dee-Jan Visits His Grandfather tells the story of the boy and his elephant trekking through the jungle in search of his Grandfathers village.

But when Dee Jan stops for a rest and then falls asleep, Mocka-la-doo (his elephant) wanders off and Dee-Jan can't find him when he wakes up.

Unbeknown to Dee-Jan, his best friend follows him and when he sees Dee-Jan making camp by a river, plays a practical joke on him which ends with both boys falling in the river.

During the night, the boys hear noises from the jungle and have a Ghostly encounter.

Forced to leave their shelter to investigate, the boys find themselves reunited with Mocka-La-Doo.

Continuing their journey, the boys overcome many obstacles including waterfalls that the elephant must climb, before eventually finding the village where Dee-Jan meets his Grandfather.

Mocka-la-doo also meets his mother, Maboo-Maa, who belongs to Dee-Jan's Grandfather.

There is a wonderful reunion both for the boy and his elephant and the book ends happily. The book is illustrated throughout with colour photographs of the Mahout and his elephant during the adventure and, based on the real-lives of Hill Tribe people living in primitive conditions, will be both entertaining and educational to children of most age groups.

The book is aimed at 7 to 11 year old children but is of interest to all age groups and can also be read to younger children, as a bedtime story.
