Shaun has Sickle Cell Anaemia and he has to work hard to persuade his parents to let him go on a school trip to Scotland.

He almost regrets going when he finds himself in a group with three bullies.

During a forest trek, Shaun's team take a short-cut in order to beat the rest of the class, and are soon lost.

Martin, one of the bullies, falls into a fast-flowing river and Shaun proves himself by plunging in and saving his life.

The coldness of the river causes a Sickle Cell crisis which lands him in hospital.

Martin is in the next bed and they eventually become friends.
