For over 150 years, data on occupational mortality have been available in the Registrar General's Decennial Supplements.

This volume, a joint venture between the former Office of Population Censuses and Surveys and the Health and Safety Executive, continues this series but expands it to include occupational morbidity.

It gives the most recent baseline figures and measurements of mortality and morbidity by occupation.

The volume draws on a range of data sources to present a picture of the current patterns and trends in ill-health and death among different occupational groups.

It includes chapters on the occupational mortality of men and women, giving details of selected occupations that have high mortality from specific causes as well as presenting summaries for each occupation group.

There are also chapters on occupation and cancer; asbestos related-diseases; workplace injuries and links between smoking, drinking and occupation.

Other areas covered include: occupation and fertility; sickness absence and international comparisons of occupational illness, accidents and mortality.
