Supporting you move Print & eBook Supply to Browns Books for Students

Following the information that supply has ceased from Bertrams, Dawsons and Education Umbrella. We have had lots of requests to advise how we can support your eBook and print supply.

We are working closely with publishers and customers to offer our support and have put together the information and advice we have received so far to assist those affected customers at this time.

Browns Books for Students wishes to advise that this has no affect to our supply chain, we utilise Gardners Books as our main warehouse for Books & Multimedia and have direct relationships with publishers for specialist content. We own and host our own eBook Platform VLeBooks with a current catalogue of 1.5 million eBooks.

Moving your eBooks from Dawsonera to VLeBooks:

Can I move my eBooks to VleBooks?

Yes - we need to wait for the “trigger point” whereby the administration advises there will be no continuation of service from a buyer or the platform becomes un-available then we can turn on the content on VLeBooks. We don’t know when this will be but could be very soon.

What will I need to do? - IMPORTANT

We need a list of owned content, licence types, and available credits left for credit models that you have on Dawsonera.

Go to dawsonera.com/ click in Admin and log in with username and password.

Click on e-book Collection and then on Download List.

You will need an Account with Browns which is completely FREE and no commitment. And complete the VleBooks Application Form (Link Below)

We will begin matching your eBook catalogue and preparing our loader ready for the trigger point to enable your content. You will have immediate access to purchase any content from VleBooks.

How long will it take?

Setting up an account is very simple and usually completed in 48hours once we have your preferred authentication. These options include, Athens, Shibboleth, Google and Office 365, IP Address and EZProxy to name a few.

Once we have the green light, we will enable the content on your platform and provide a MARC file with direct links, for those using an LMS.

We are preparing for a large number of requests and we have prepared additional resources to support these customers. This will be done as quickly as possible to get your catalogue available on VleBooks.

Where we have the same title and licence on Vlebooks these will be done first and the quickest to load.

Titles where we don’t have a direct match, or do not have the content, may take a little longer.

Where we do not have the title, we will request the content from the publisher and load into VleBooks. Rest assured, publishers are supporting us in this, and we are already loading in content in anticipation. We are also looking to gain agreement for any missing licenses so you are able to purchase additional copies under the same terms.

What cannot be transferred?

There maybe some withdrawn or very old content that we are unable to secure however our eBook and technical team are already working to find solutions and access to as much content as possible.

If you have annotations, notes comments or enhanced content in Dawsonera unfortunately these cannot be transferred as they are held within the platform.

How will Browns support me?

Our team are available to get you up and running, provide technical and training support via phone and zoom along with our Sales Team and recent additions to the team who have joined from Dawson’s when they unfortunately were made redundant.

Of course! Many accounts are utilising our book covering range not only does it extend the life of your books but assists with COVID cleaning and hygiene requirements allowing physical books to be wiped down between uses.
