The rapid growth of interest in inclusion chemistry was highlighted recently by the award of the Nobel prize for chemistry to Professors D.J.

Cram, J.M. Lehn, and C.J. Pedersen. The principal aim of Inclusion Compounds is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date survey of the field of inclusion chemistry. In-depth coverage of subjects has been achieved by inviting the leading international authorities to write on their particular fields of interests; their contributions include detailed descriptions of the design, synthesis, and structure of organic host molecules, molecular recognition and complexation, and host-guest interactions. Previously underdeveloped subjects are given broad coverage, with separate chapters relating to calixarene chemistry and inclusion mechanisms, acyclic diol hosts, cyclophanes, and lariat ethers.

Volume 4 is complete in itself as a reference work on organic host molecules. Volume 5 is concerned with inorganic and physical aspects of inclusion phenomena. These books will be of interest and use to all those concerned with the fundamental study of inclusion compounds, as well as those interested in the applications of such complexes in the analytical, biochemical and industrial fields.
