Acoustic Guitar : Rhythm Essentials for the Advanced Beginner

See all formats and editions

Master the rhythm essentials that will take your guitar playing from advanced beginner to the next level.

Beginner level guitar is about learning the common open chords, a few strum patterns and some songs. From here we might go on to learn bar chords and some more intermediate level techniques. Unfortunately there is often a whole level that tends to get skipped - playing solid rhythm with good timing and the right feel. This alone can transform your playing to a point that you can jam with others, play with confidence and be a part of the band, or jam, that's holding things together.

It's one thing knowing your Down / Up strumming but there's more to it than that. You need to know when and where it applies, how to use it with variation to make your strumming technique work correctly with the feel of the rhythm.

In this book you will learn how to:
  • Use dynamics to break up your strumming into recognisable rhythms
  • Understand the common time signatures and play correctly against them
  • Learn the different feels like straight, triplet and shuffle rhythms.
  • How to include muted strums to create more percussive rhythm playing.
Includes 10 backing tracks (free download) with example rhythms and TAB using various styles and timings.

Most of the backing tracks use common open chords which you probably already know.

This book is for the advanced beginner, you should already know how to play common open chords like C, Am, G etc, and be able to play at least some very basic rhythms. This book will not show you how to hold the guitar or things like where to put your fingers and hold a pick etc. That is for the complete beginner, this book is the next level.
