Best Foot Forward : Telegraph Book of Walking

With pieces drawn from the Telegraph's Travel, News and Obituary pages from the present right back to the earliest days of the paper, this loosely themed anthology brings together the very best writing from (or sometimes, about) the most celebrated travel writers, alive or dead. Pieces about Britain's long-distance National Trails, from the first - The Pennine Way - to the most recent, The Wales Coast Path, rub shoulders with descriptions of Europe's GR20 around Corsica and America's Appalachian Trail.

There will be coastal walks, urban walks, walks exploring the battle fields of the Western Front, along canal paths or on disused railway lines. The Tory MP Rory Stewart, previously a travel writer, wrote about walking in Cumbria for the paper.

A series about London saw writers walk the length of the Thames from Hampton Court to the Thames Barrier, or explore Regency London.

The list of walking travel writers to have written for the Telegraph includes Nicholas Crane, Luke Jennings and Dervla Murphy. More recent pieces include coverage of Ian Botham's charity walk from Land's End to John O'Groats and the paraplegic woman who walked the the London Marathon in a bionic suit.
