The Lear Diaries : The Story of the Royal National Theatre's Productions of Shakespeare's Richard III and King Lear

"The Lear Diaries" is not only an account of how a group of leading actors approach a major text, it also gives an insight into the pressures placed on today's stars of the theatre.

Actor Brian Cox describes the emotional and physical problems which came with playing the all-consuming role of King Lear, while at the same time working as a member of a hardworking ensemble and playing roles in "Richard III".

Cox's diary also reveals the personal strains of touring, in particular the problems of being separated from his family as the company embarks on a year-long tour.
