The Last Stronghold : A Story of the Modoc Indian War 1872-1873

For seven months a band of 50 Modoc warriors stood off a force of a thousand U.S. soldiers near the Oregon/California border. Luger tells the story of that war as seen through the eyes of three teenaged boys -- a Russian Jewish refugee, a Western settler, and a Modoc -- whose fates collide.
