Drawing on the most vibrant interviews from the hundreds recorded for BBC Scotland's principal radio series to celebrate the Millennium, this volume charts the progress of the nation through the memories and reminiscences of its people.

Those interviewed include not only cardinals and judges, cabinet ministers and tycoons but also former miners, jute-workers, domestic servants and fishermen; whether the life was lived in the full glare of publicity or, more likely, with complete anonymity, each has its own, equally valid, insights to offer on living and working in Scotland this century.

In essence, this book is a collage of personal histories which collectively form the autobiography of the nation.
