The emphasis of this book is very much on modern automotive electronics and it concentrates on technology in production from the late 1980s on.

It is assumed that the reader has little or no prior knowledge of electrical or electronic engineering.

The text takes the reader from the basics through to the most recently developed systems.

Although they may do very different jobs, all sophisticated automobile electronic control systems work in fundamentally the same way and comprise a microcomputer system that communicates with the outside world via various sensors and actuators.

The text concentrates on the building-up of a good knowledge base in electrical and electronic principles, guiding the reader through the fundamentals of microprocessor systems and their control strategies.

Vehicle-specific applications are illustrated through case studies drawn from a wide variety of different manufacturers' products.

Simple analogies to the everyday world are presented wherever possible and jargon is avoided. The book is aimed at motor vehicle technicians and engineers, students on City & Guilds, BTEC and NVQ courses in motor vehicle technology, and electrical and electronics engineers at further and higher levels.
