Tyeb Mehta (b.1925) is one of India's most celebrated, prolific, and critically acclaimed contemporary artists.

In 2005, his painting "Mahishasura" sold for $1.5 million at an auction in Sotheby's New York - the highest-ever amount paid for a work of contemporary Indian art.
