Yuri Norstein is unique in world animation. Joining the Soviet film making co-operative, Soyuzmultfilm, at a time when the Studio was producing Disney-esque fairy tales for children, he brought a new finesse, a strangely melancholy humour and a deep understanding of Russian art and culture.

His reputation as one of the world's greatest animators has grown exponentially since his work has been seen in the West.

In his masterpiece, Tale of Tales, he invented an entirely new genre.

It has been voted, in two major international polls, as 'best animated film of all time'.

The DVD is a specially compiled series of six animation works by Yuri Norstein including the celebrated Tale of Tales together with an interview with the renowned animator taken from the documentary Magia Russica.
