Most human exposure to carcinogens is not to single agents but to often ill-defined mixtures of related or unrelated substances.

This book addresses two fundamental issues in the assessment of cancer risks due to exposure to complex mixtures: that of gathering suitable scientific data and that of the predictive use of the available data.

A total of 46 contributions review our knowledge of the effects of various classes of mixture, discuss the methods used both in the laboratory and in epidemiological studies, present results of significant new research and look at possible enhancements of research strategies and techniques.

Recommendations are presented for future approaches to research in this area.
