Richard Meier began his career in the early 1960s by designing private homes in a Modernist style, characterized by large glazed openings set into pristine white facades.

These include Smith House on the coast of Connecticut and Douglas House facing Lake Michigan. This book documents his complete residential oeuvre, and showcases 14 of his American homes.

Drawings, plans, clients' personal reflections and the architect's insight accompany the discussion of each house, which includes homes in Dallas, Palm Beach, the Hamptons and New York.

A chronology of all Meier's built and unbuilt residential projects and a list of awards are also included along with an essay by Richard Rogers.
